Inter-subject activities - a student's activities dossier A dossier containing more profound activities in mathematics for high school students of all levels. Subjects of activities in the dossier: Problems that are part of the current authentic doing in mathematics. Problems that dealing with them brings on thinking about essential problems that can be explained by mathematics. "Big" problems that have connections and implications in the various domains of mathematics. Problems that using the computer to solve them brings on questions, conjectures and new directions of interest. The activities use specialized inquiry software that allows the student to see things from a new point of view. The activities are accompanied by articles and by references to multi-discipline reading in mathematics, the history of mathematics, and science. There are also references to video movies and to mathematics locations in the Internet. |
The activities can be used for external assessment, for alternative school assessment or as a part of the curriculum. Teacher's guide - the dossier is accompanied by teacher's pages containing possible solutions of the activities. Teachers' training - teachers interested in training courses or help with performing the activities in class should contact the mathematics team of CET. characteristics of each task: The collection contains tasks of different scopes: short questions, extended problems, and projects. |
Use of technology: In most cases, the tasks can be performed without using technology, but the use of technology can bring on a pedagogical change expressed in different requirements from different students and in the way different students perform the tasks. Type of technological support: While developing the current collection of tasks we took into account different types of technological tools. Location of each task in the objects and operations map: All the tasks in the collection have the same structure. The task number indicates its location in the objects and operations map. The role of the "objects and operations in algebra map" is to indicate on which mathematical concepts and operations the students are examined. |
