Trips and reflections (II)
Here is another story about a bike ride:
|
Ned's ride lasted six and a half hours. At first he rode at a speed of 16 kilometers per hour, then slowed down to 12 kilometers per hour. The distance he rode during the first part of the ride is longer by 6 kilometers then the distance he rode in the second part.
Questions: After how long did Ned reduce his speed? What distance did
he ride in the first part of his trip?

The dynamic figure shows a sketch of the graph describing Ned's trip.

Use reflections to create new stories with questions that have the same solution
as that in the initial story. Write down your stories,
questions, and the corresponding sketches.

Use the
Representing motion at several speeds tool to verify that you have enough information to represent each story and answer the questions you created.

Try to answer the questions in the initial story using the answers
to the questions in the stories you created.
