Rate of change of linear functions
Value tables and rate of change

The value tables below represent processes in which milk was heated or cooled at a constant rate in experiments intended to examine the effect of the rate of temperature change on the nutritional qualities of milk. Although in all the experiments the measurements were taken at regular time-intervals, these intervals were different in each experiment (every minute, every minute and a half, and so on).

Rank the different experiments according to the rate of heating or cooling of the milk. In which experiment was the milk heated or cooled at the highest rate? At the lowest rate? Are there two experiments in which the milk was heated or cooled at the same rate?
  • Describe ways to compare the rate of change of two functions.
