Graph transformations: the Vertex Form
Constructing families of functions

This task involves constructing families of quadratic functions of the following types:

1. The vertices of all the functions in the family have the same x-coordinate.

2. The vertices of all the functions in the family have the same y-coordinate.

3. All the functions in the family have a common vertex.

4. All the functions in the family have a common point of intersection with the y-axis.

5. Both points of intersection with the x-axis are common to all the functions.

6. One point of intersection with the x-axis is common to all the functions.

Construct families of functions

Choose an initial quadratic function.
  • Create a family of functions by performing transformations on the graph of the initial function so that functions in the family have a common property. Record what type of transformation you erformed.
  • Record a few examples of correspondence rules of functions in the family you created.
  • Write a description of the family using a single expression with parameters.
  • Use the Transformations tool in the general tools list to help you in performing this task.
